Victor J. Lauerman

October 19, 1926 — June 18, 2023

West Lafayette

Victor, J. Lauerman, Jr., 96, passed away June 18, 2023. Vic was born the son of Victor and Evelyn (Solon) Lauerman October 19, 1926 in Hammond Indiana. His family later moved to Fowler in 1929.

Victor married Norma Freeland July 16, 1949 and she preceded him in death in 1965. They had four children, Susan, V.J. III, Beth, and Sarah. Sarah died at the age of 15 months in 1961. Victor later married Jane Breedlove of Shelbyville on April 20, 1974.

Vic graduated from Fowler High School in 1944 and attended Purdue University. He then served in the U.S. Navy in WW II. Vic was a partner in the Freeland, McGinnis & Lauerman Real Estate and Insurance Agency in Fowler from 1959 until the business was sold to the employees in 1994. Vic also served as president of the Fowler Community Fund, Fowler Park Board, and Benton County Country Club. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish Council and Director of the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana. He was Fowler’s First Tree Commissioner, planting over 500 trees in Benton County in hopes of more trees to be planted throughout the area to give life to the world. Vic and Jane enjoyed sharing wonderful times and self-fulfilling moments as members of the Fowler Sacred Heart Choir.

Vic and Jane moved to Westminster Village in West Lafayette in April, 2017. The Staff, hourly employees, and friendly neighbors of the Village cannot be thanked enough for being so helpful and kind. Thank you, also, to the Guardian Angels Hospice for their loving assistance in helping make Vic’s final days more comfortable. An extra special thanks to the priests at St. Thomas Aquinas for visiting with Vic, after Mass service, when he was no longer able to attend. They were blessed with wonderful lives in Fowler and continuing at the Village.

Vic is survived by his wife, Jane, children Susan (John) Luebke of Stevens Point, WI (Annie, Eric, Lilian, Martin Olson MN), (Seth, Jamie, Kip, Porter Luebke WI); V.J. (Kathryn) Lauerman of Dallas, TX; Beth (Gregg) Parris of Muncie, IN (Aaron, Mandy, Kayla, Maren Parris IN); (Isaac, Derika, Eliana, Noah Parris IN); sisters-in-law, Mary Wickizer of Shelbyville, IN and Jane Freeland of McAllen, TX as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.

Vic will now be together with his first wife, Norma and youngest daughter, Sarah, who lost her struggle with cancer way too soon in life on earth, as well as his parents, brother, Tom (Eva) Lauerman. God’s home is our greatest gift!

Visitation will be from 9-11am (EST) Saturday, July 8, 2023 with Mass to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fowler, IN with Fr. Sean M. Aaron officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately after at St. John the Baptist Parish Hall in Earl Park.
