Rose Mae (Garing) Pilotte

Rose Mae Pilotte, 96, of Fowler, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 8, 2022, surrounded by her family saying the Rosary. She was born October 6, 1925 in Fowler, Indiana to the late Henry William and Adele Catherine Garing. In 1940, she graduated from 8th grade at Sacred Heart Elementary School. Due to family responsibilities, she did not return to school until age 63, at which time she obtained her GED. During her working years, she was employed at various nearby factories and her later years were spent as a cook at Benton Central High School and Fowler Elementary School. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and St Anne’s Society. She enjoyed all of her time spent with family and loved the challenge of a good puzzle. She worked very hard in her garden and spent many years teaching her children the importance of canning the harvest. She also spent a few years watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On a cold wintery day, January 4th, 1947, she married Arnold (Arnie) Pilotte and they raised 9 children together over the years. They loved dancing together and playing cards with family and friends. Dad and Mom created many memories for their children by taking the family to play bingo at the VFW, and visiting friends and neighbors at the Legion. Surviving children are Lynn Krick of Earl Park, Tony Pilotte of Fowler, Theresa (Cecil) Emery of Earl Park, Chris (Alan) Brost of Ambia, Arlene (Randy) Puetz of West Lafayette, Greg Pilotte of Texas, Janet (Rick) Jacobs of Monon, David Pilotte of Georgia, and Katrina (Bill) Molter of Fowler. Rose was a proud grandmother of 27 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Robert Krick, grandson Jason Emery, and brothers, Bill and Sam Garing, and sisters, Rita Evans, Helen Wallpe, Pat Richey, Ruth Schneider, and Mildred Garing.

We would like to thank Indiana University Hospice, especially, Jude, Tracy, and Chris, for all of their guidance throughout the last several months. And, thank you Father Peter for coming to the house over the past several years to give Mom the Blessed Sacraments. Mother also greatly appreciated all of the prayers from everyone in the community over the years, she was honored that so many thought of her.

A Rosary Service will be held at 5 PM prior to visitation from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Gerts, Windler & Keller Funeral Home (506 E Main St, Fowler, IN 47944). A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church (107 E Main St, Fowler, IN 47944) with Father Vanderkolk officiating. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery (465 West Division Road, Fowler, Indiana, 47944).

Memorial contributions may be made to the Benton County Cancer Association and Sacred Heart School.
