Ronald L. Scott, 85, of Kentland, passed peacefully on June 17, surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 8, 1939, to the late Robert and Juanita (Hopp) Scott in Clinton County, he was a 1957 graduate of Delphi High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in 1961 from Indiana State University and a Masters in Education from Purdue University.
Ronald met his future bride, Marcia, in his freshman English class at ISU. They married on June 17, 1962 in Brook, Indiana. They were blessed with four daughters, Carolyn, Nancy, Marcella, and Michelle.
Ron loved math and teaching math to his students. He taught at Rushville High School, Fortville High School, and spent the bulk of his career at South Newton High School retiring in 1994. He loved running into his former students and catching up with their lives. He never knew a stranger. After retiring from teaching, Ron went on to deliver the mail and help people with their taxes. He also spent many hours helping on the farm. In Ron’s younger years he was also known for his vast garden. One could always find him picking strawberries in the month of June.
Most importantly, Ron loved the Lord. He was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church north of Kentland, and was active in Gideon International. Ron taught Sunday School for many years and could be counted on to offer up a prayer at any time. He also served for many years on the Newton County Church Association.
Surviving are Ron’s four daughters, Carolyn Lemke (Michael) of Camby, IN, Nancy Studt (David) of Noblesville, and twin daughters Marcella Merida (Jim) of Brookston, and Michelle Whiteman (Jeff) of Lafayette. Ron is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 4 great grandchildren, four brothers and four sisters, and special friend, Carolyn Bice of Brook, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marcia L. Scott, grandson Derrick Whiteman, and one brother.
Visitation will be Friday, June 21, 2024 from 5-7pm CST and from 10:30 until the funeral hour at 11am CST on June 22, 2024 all held at Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Kentland, IN officiated by Pastor Matt Baughman. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Brook, IN.
