Nicholas Gick, 68, of Fowler, IN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning at his home after a two-year battle with lung cancer.

Born on November 21, 1957, Nick was the youngest of 13 children to his late parents, Charles P. and Loretta A. (Weisenberger) Gick. He grew up learning the values of hard work, resilience, and family, which he carried with him throughout his life.

Nick graduated from Seeger High in 1976. He received a degree in Applied Sciences in Electronics Technology from Ivy Tech in 1987. Nick served his country in the Air Force as an Airman First Class and was an aircraft electrical systems specialist with a unit of the Military Airlift Command in Germany. A proud veteran, he had the honor of taking a meaningful trip on our local Honor Flight later in life alongside his brothers who had served, a journey that deepened his pride in his service for our country.

Nick was the father of Justin (Michelle) Gick of Lafayette. Nick and Justin have many memories camping together. Nick was a proud grandfather to Owen (12) and Olivia Gick (10), who brought him endless joy. He cherished every moment with them, especially cheering them on at their sports games and sharing biscuits and gravy on Christmas morning—a tradition that they will carry in their hearts forever.

Nick is also survived by his 7 siblings, Judy Jesse, Merle (Kay) Gick, Donna (Donald) Kendall, James Gick, Larry (Chris) Gick, Dian Lanie, & Debbie (David) Barker; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nick is preceded in death by 5 brothers, Jack, Edward, David, Steve, and Gene Gick.

Nick loved spending time riding his Harley Motorcycle and traveling the United States, visiting historical landmarks. In recent years, Nick enjoyed volunteering at the local AmVets Post 102 after his retirement from Drug Plastics in Oxford, IN. He had a lifelong passion for gardening and could often be found tending to his produce so he could carry on his family’s tradition of canning.

Nick will be deeply missed by all who knew him. While he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A rosary and visitation will be held at Gerts, Windler & Keller Funeral Home ~ Fowler Chapel on Sunday, January 11. The rosary will begin at 12:45pm, and the visitation will go from 1:00-3:00pm ET.
