Michael "Mike Allen Nagel

September 6, 1950 — February 11, 2024

Brook

Michael “Mike” Allen Nagel, 73, of Brook passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in Rensselaer on September 6, 1950 to Francis and Leta (Cunningham) Nagel. He was a 1969 graduate of Rensselaer High School then went on to served in the US Army. Following his time in the service he was employed by Stath Electric while continuing his education at Ivy Tech for Electrical contracting. He then purchased the company in January 1977 and changed the name to Nagel Electric; and successfully maintained the business for nearly 47 years.

On January 8, 1972, he married Rosemary Williams in Goodland at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Mike was a faithful and active member of the church, having served as an officer for the Holy Name Society and CYO leader. He was also an active member of the Rensselaer Knights of Columbus.

Mike enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and supporting them in their extracurricular activities. He could be found anywhere from the fairgrounds observing 4H projects to the bleachers or sidelines of any grandchild’s activity. People could hear his support in the form of cheering, calling the kids by their nicknames or even heckling the refs for poor calls. Mike had nicknames for a lot of people, and once you had one, it stuck throughout your life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rosemary (nickname: Smed); daughters Steffanie (Derald) Warren and Jill (Don) Bahler; grandchildren - Chase and Brynn Warren, Bryce, Koby, Elyzabeth, Bowyn and Corbyn (CJ) Bahler. You may have heard Mike lovingly refer to any of these people as ‘Buff’ (Steffanie), ‘Vidus’ (Jill), ‘Buckaroo’ (Chase), ‘Scooterboo’ (Brynn), ‘Bryceroni’ (Bryce), ‘Koberman’ (Koby), ‘Gizzimo’ (Lyzzy). He is also survived by brothers - Marvin (Pam), Kevin, Greg (Kim); sisters - Phyllis Murray, Nancy Miller, Kay Williams, Carol (Dave) Richter; and sister in law - Gail Nagel.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenny and brother-in-law, Mike Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Knights of Columbus Rensselaer, Gibault Home for Boys, American Diabetes Association, or donors’ choice.
