Mathew William Simpson

July 20, 1989 — September 14, 2025

Morocco

Mathew William Simpson, 36, of Morocco. As this world becomes a little less bright with the unexpected passing of Mathew William Simpson, September 14, 2025. He was a devoted son, loving father, and friend to many. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled in the hearts of his family and friends.

Born in Niagara Falls, New York he was raised with a strong sense of family. He moved to Illinois when he was 11 (which is where the ‘Matt’ personality that we all love started to develop) he did the things all kids love, playing sports, riding bikes and tinkering with whatever he thought needed tinkering (even if they didn’t). He grew up with a quick wit and an infectious laugh.

His greatest joy in life was being a dad. Even though there would be some trying times every now and then, he still loved every minute that he was able to be an example. He instilled in values of kindness, integrity, helpfulness and humor. He was a constant presence in their lives, cheering them on at every turn.

He would always say that I never understood why you were on me (nagging - Matt’s word) when I was growing up to keep my room and areas clean, now I see why you said that. It drives me nuts when it isn’t. With that being said, he had no issue with having sliced tomato wars with his brother at the dinner table, in…OUR…dining room. Thanksgiving 2024 for evermore has been dubbed the Great Tomato War.

He also would say that he’s cleaning up the vehicle from the kids making messes or dirtying it up but he conveniently forgot that most times when we would go out and get some fast food, 9 times out of 10, we would hear from the back seat “Uh oh”. Not even out of the parking lot and a drink was spilled or food dropped. There was that anticipation of when it would happen and not if it would happen.

In his professional life, Matt was a talented welder among many other roles that he filled. His hobbies included working on cars, motorcycles and anything else that might need to be fixed(along with the occasional sentence enhancers that accompanied that work). He never thought of something as unrepairable, he thought of those as challenges. He also loved his new found hobby of raising chickens. As he said he never, ever thought he would be raising chickens but here he was, naming them all and having favorites(we didn’t add the favorite chickens names because we didn’t want the others to feel left out.

Matt is survived by his parents, William Gliwa and Donna (Prygon)Gliwa; his brother, Nicholas Gliwa; daughter, Eleanor Rose and her mother, Alannah Simmons; fiancé, Jacque Bray and her sons, Rylan Lee and Colton James; grandparents, Dennis Prygon and Geraldine (Kurowski)Prygon, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends, who were the same as family, that will miss him dearly.

Visitation to be held September 19, 2025 from 5 to 6pm (EST) until the hour of Celebration of Life at 6pm (EST) with Rick Gerts officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Stop the Bleed Coalition. It is also our wish that friends and family attend dressed in their personal comfort level. We feel that this ask would be in line with the way that Matt would want for his remembrance gathering.

Arrangements entrusted to Gerts, Windler & Keller Funeral Homes ~ Fowler Chapel 506 E. Main St., Fowler, IN 47944. (765) 884-0110 www.kellerfh.com
