It is with heavy hearts that we announce our devoted mother, compassionate nurse, and cherished friend, Marianne “Ann” Skidmore-Hocking, left this world for her heavenly home on November 28, 2025 at the age of 82. Her life was a testament to love, kindness, and selfless service.
Born November 4, 1943, in Speedway, IN, Ann grew up with a natural inclination to care for others, even assisting her mother, who was Director of Nursing at Indiana Veterans Home, from an early age. This calling led her to pursue a career in nursing, and upon earning her licensure as a Registered Nurse from Methodist Hospital, she dedicated over 50 years of her life to healing and comforting those in need, including 32 years as School Nurse at Benton Central Jr. Sr. High School. Her warm smile and unwavering patience left an indelible mark on the people and students she cared for.
Beyond her professional life, Ann was the heart of our family. She taught us the value of compassion, resilience, faith, and perseverance. Her warm smile could light up any room, and her genuine care was a source of comfort that words could never replace.
Ann was a pivotal member of the Benton County community. In addition to her work as a nurse, She served Benton County as an EMT, a member of the Child Protection Team, a member of Civil Defense, a volunteer for many community organizations, and a loving foster parent to children in dire need. She was a devoted member of Fowler United Methodist Church, serving her church family in a wide variety of positions and performing many acts of unconditional love.
Ann is survived by her three children: David (Deanna), Diane (Christian), and Daniel; and two grandchildren: Brody and Natalie, who will forever cherish her memory and strive to honor her legacy of unconditional love and care. She is now reunited in the eternal kingdom with her parents, Harry and Ethel Skidmore; and her brother, Richard Skidmore, whom she loved and missed dearly.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held on December 13, 2025, at the Fowler United Methodist Church, where we gather to share stories, memories, and gratitude for the incredible woman she was. Visitation begins at 10:00 am (ET), with the service scheduled to begin at 11:00 am (ET), and a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Steve Fleming Fund c/o Benton Central Jr. Sr High School or Glimmers of Hope in Fowler, IN, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Though our hearts ache with her absence, we find solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. Rest in peace, Mom, you will forever be our guiding light.
