Kathleen Mary (Stath) Kindig

Kathleen M. (Stath) Kindig, 100, of Brook, went to be with Jesus April 11, 2025 at Autumn Trace Assisted Living in Kentland surrounded by her loving family. She had celebrated her 100th birthday November 6 with family and friends. She is the daughter of Wilbur and Fern Stath. On December 16, 1945, she was married to Lester E. Kindig. Kathleen and Lester raised their family on the Stath Family Farm which received the Hoosier Homestead Centennial Farm Award March 2019.

After graduating from Brook High School in 1942, she remained an active member of the Brook Alumni her entire life. While raising their family, they farmed, raised Angus cattle, hogs and chickens. Her family was active in 4-H continuing through grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kathleen was a devoted bank teller at the Brook Community State Bank for 27 years. She was a member of Brook United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Iroquois Washington Preservation Committee which was instrumental in compiling a Sesquicentennial collection of Washington and Iroquois Townships in Brook, IN. Kathleen enjoyed trips with her husband and family, the Community Band in 1998 and 2000 and later, trips with daughter Judy and son-in-law, Dave Wilson to the 25th Military Police reunions, where she was an honorary member.

She enjoyed making photo albums and scrapbooks of her family and travels. Kathleen also enjoyed doing sewing projects and cooking for her family and church events. She was an avid card player of 5-Crowns and was known for beating all who played her. Her family meant everything to her as she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her loving daughters: Wilma (Wayne) Clark, Linda (Stephan) Vaughan and Judy Wilson, daughter-in-law, Linda Kindig, niece, Susan (Tom) Priddy, nephew, Gary (Joyce) Stath, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Carlin, brother, William “Bill” Stath, sisters-in-law, Renska Stath, Pauline (Thomas) Stutesman, Dorotha Kindig, Esther Kindig as well as a niece, Nancy Stath.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 9am-11am (CST) until the funeral hour at 11am at Brook United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Brook, IN with Pastor Matt Baughman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brook United Methodist Church.
