John Clarence Dwenger

July 17, 1939 — September 16, 2025

Oxford

John Clarence "Jack" Dwenger, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 16, 2025. Born on July 17, 1939, in Oxford, Indiana, John lived a life rooted in faith, service, and community.

A proud graduate of Oxford High School’s Class of 1957, John enlisted in the United States Army that same year. He served honorably until 1965, achieving the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4). His years in the military reflected his deep sense of service, duty and patriotism.

On April 11, 1964, John married the love of his life, Sharon (Altepeter). Together they shared 61 cherished years and created a family that filled their lives with pride and joy, in a warm home filled with love and laughter.

John remained a lifelong resident of Indiana and was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Oxford, where he was an usher and served on the cemetery board. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and provided strength through both joyful and difficult times.

He had a warm personality and an easy ability to connect with others. Known for his infectious laugh and ready smile, John left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He rarely went anywhere without running into someone he knew.

John had many passions throughout his life. He was an avid fan of John Deere tractors, making sure everyone knew that his favorite color was "John Deere green." He took great pride in raising and showing rabbits, displaying all his championship ribbons and trophies to anyone who visited his home. He also loved sports—especially cheering for the Purdue Boilermakers, the Benton Central Bison, and the Chicago Cubs.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon, and two sons, John and Jim Dwenger. He is lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Janet (Chris), Carol (Michael), and Tricia (David); as well as grandchildren Chris (Tiffany), Holly (Keenan), Blane (Sydney), Mikayla, Emily, and Christina.

Visitation will be held on September 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, located at 504 S Michigan St in Oxford, Indiana. Rosary will immediately follow visitation at 12:30 PM, with the funeral mass starting at 1:00 PM also at St. Patrick’s with Fr. Robert Klemme officiating. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
