John Thomas Baxter

John Thomas Baxter, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at his home in Fowler, IN

He was born May 26, 1939 in Fowler to the late Eugene and Pearl (Durflinger) Baxter. He graduated from Fowler High School, class of 1957. John proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Renshaw as a radio operator. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

John worked at Fowler State Bank for over 30 years in various positions, including Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and branch manager in Goodland. He also worked in real estate and insurance at Guthridge Real Estate. After retirement in 2001, he enjoyed gardening, bird watching, along with watching his favorite sports team which were IU basketball, the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears while also keeping up with local and national politics.

Surviving are his son, Thomas (Jennifer) Baxter of Lafayette, granddaughter, Brooke Baxter of Bloomington, sister, Susan Benner (Kenneth) of Fowler, former wife, Carole Baxter of Lafayette, several nieces and nephews and caretaker, Shannon Million.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Ellen Balensiefer and brother, David Baxter.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 11am at Fowler Cemetery with Rick Gerts officiating.
