Janet Ann Greives Schutter passed away peacefully July 10, 2025 at Westminster Village, West Lafayette, Indiana. Special thanks to the entire staff at Westminster Village for taking excellent care of her during her stay. She was born October 17, 1930 in Earl Park, Indiana to Bernard E. and Mary Catherine Ringle Freeland. Janet graduated from Fowler High School in 1948 and Mount Mary College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1952 with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She worked at many local nursing facilities for many years and retired as an Occupational Therapist at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. Janet married George J. Greives, Jr. on January 3, 1953 who passed away on April 14,2004. She later married Joseph Schutter on June 28, 2008 and he survives. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Otterbein, Indiana, Legion of Mary, the Indiana and American Occupational Therapy Association and the Indiana and American Hereford Association. Survivors include husband, Joe; son, Bob Greives (Pam Jones), of West Lafayette; daughter, Barbara Shaw of Blue Ridge, Georgia, daughter, Julie Richard (Matthew) of Cullman, Alabama, grandchildren, Matthew Greives (Colin Moussa), Bradley Greives (Stacey), Ryan Greives (Stephanie), Kyle Richard (Ansley) and Jillian Richard, great-grandchildren, Kaylee Belle Greives, Genevieve and Scottie Richard, brothers, George Freeland (Judie) and Joseph Freeland, sisters, Marilyn Rhodes and Patricia Leisten (Ray), brother in-law, David Greives, Joe's children: Annette Oneal (Matt), Jim Schutter (Trina), Tony Schutter (Christy), Emily McDaniel (Brian: predeceased), Kathryn Schutter (predeceased), 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Mark Greives and daughter, Mary Greives Miller, son-in-law, Steven Shaw, sister, Joyce Freeland, brother, James Freeland, sister-in-laws, Mary Freeland, Phyllis Freeland, Jan Freeland and Diane Greives and brother-in-law, Dale Rhodes.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025 at the funeral home from 5pm-7pm with the Holy Rosary at 7pm (EST). Funeral Mass of the Eucharist will be celebrated Friday, July 18, 2025 at 10 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fowler, IN, and interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fowler, Indiana with Fr. Robert Klemme officiating.
