Jane Whaley

Jane Marie Whaley, 76, of Brook, Indiana, died Saturday, June 20, 2026. Jane was born on December 15, 1949, to parents Kenneth “Bud” and Thelma “Cork” Carroll. Jane graduated from South Newton High School in 1968.

Jane married her high school sweetheart, John Charles “Chuck” Whaley, on August 30, 1970. They had two children; John Edward Whaley and Jana Lee Whaley.

To Jane, family was everything. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Jane never missed a sporting event for Janelle, Brock, or Blake. Christmas was a special time for her - she spent days preparing food to please everyone in the family. Everyone knew her Christmas Carmels!

Jane was a lifelong homemaker and farm wife known for her excellent cooking. We looked forward to her “meals on wheels” as she brought lunch to the men in the field.

Jane loved Purdue basketball, helping with church dinners, antique shopping with her sister, Karen, and volunteering at the Newton County fair. She helped with the 4-H livestock auction and was a ticket taker at grandstand events with her dear friend, Judy, where they spent much of their time telling stories and laughing.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Cork; and her husband, Chuck Whaley. She is survived by her son John (Brooke) Whaley of Brook, and daughter Jana (Patrick) Lee of Lafayette. She is also survived by grandchildren, Janelle (Darren) Gillum of Lafayette, Brock Whaley (Gianna Miketinac) of Brook, and Blake Whaley (Cayci Ehlinger) of Brook; sister, Karen Clark of Columbia City; brother, Thomas (Bonnie) Carroll of Brook; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We will be commemorating Jane’s life at the Brook United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm (CST) Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and the funeral service will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10:00 am (CST). Jane will be buried next to her husband at Riverside Cemetery following the service. We are honored to have Pastor Matt Baughman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brook United Methodist Church or the Newton County Fair.
