Howard D. Laffoon

Howard Daniel Laffoon, 92, of Lafayette, left this world for his eternal home, Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Clinton House Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Frankfort.

He was born April 8, 1931 in Newton County, IN to Harry Daniel and Gladys M (Bassett) Laffoon.

Howard graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1949 and served in the U. S. Army stationed in California.

He married his soul mate, Freeda June Allen, March 11, 1961 in Kentland, IN.  She preceded him in death, Jan 9, 2008.

He loved traveling with the love of his life to 49 states, missing only Alaska. He also enjoyed fishing, especially on the many lakes of Minnesota, gardening, photography and film developing as well as spending time with family. Howard retired from Purdue University after 30+ years in the Botany Department.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Laffoon-Myers and beloved nieces and nephews: Linda M. Eilers, Steve Madison, Brenda Lewis, Sandra Madison-Dyer, Cheryl Brown, Lorraine Waling, Melody Mikutowski, Terry Waling, Joel Waling, Sherri Johnston and Gayla Davis.  He was preceded in death by  niece, Diane Grieves and nephew, Roy Gene Waling.

A graveside service will be held December 27, 2023 at 11:00 am (CST) at Riverside Cemetery, Brook, IN.
