It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that George P. Wallpe passed away on June 1st at the age of 75 with his family at his side.
George was a proud crop and livestock farmer in both Benton and Warren County; he practiced land conservation by becoming one of the first no till farmers in the area. He worked with government programs to create Wallpe Wildlife Farm where he created a habitat for nature to flourish.
He was also a proud Vietnam Veteran, having served in Vietnam from 1969-1971 as a Staff Sergeant. He earned two bronze star metals while deployed. Later in life he dedicated his time to the Fowler 40/8 nurses’ program, and George was recently appointed as commander of the Boswell American Legion. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He took special pride in being part of the honor squad for fallen veterans. George spent a lot of his time traveling Benton County cemeteries placing hundreds of flags for Memorial Day and Veterans Day. He was also happy to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington DC. He was an avid hunter, especially loved turkey and pheasant hunting. He opened his home for over 30 years to family and friends for their annual pheasant hunt, where hunting was done but more than that, stories and good times were shared. He took many hunting trips with family and friends that took him all over the country hunting anything from elk to wild boars. He once achieved a turkey grand slam in 1 year. He was also part of the Volunteer Fire Department in Boswell for approximately 20 years. George took several trips to Mexico with Habitat for Humanity to serve those less fortunate while using his skilled hands and personality. George was an avid softball player and was still playing at age 73, he even started the adult softball league in Benton County over 50 years ago. Most of all, George loved watching all of his grandkids’ sporting activities. George was proud of his family and loved to tease anyone and everyone.
