Delores Ann (Leffingwell) Gross

On Wednesday, August 31, Delores Ann Gross, age 88, passed away at the Green-Hill Manor Nursing Home in Fowler, IN. She was a resident there for the past 7 years, and a lifelong resident of Fowler.

She was born to Harley and Ruth Leffingwell on June 13, 1934. She graduated from Fowler High School in 1952 and married Frank P. Gross in June of 1953. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1991.

Delores babysat for many years. She delighted in visiting with family. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and a member of the local Home Economics Club for over 40 years. One memory of Fowler she used to share was the end of World War II when she was 11 years old, the sound of all the church bells ringing celebrating the end of the war, and seeing on a daily basis soldiers in uniform walking down the streets as they returned home.

She will be remembered mostly as a loving and caring mother, raising 5 children. Delores was loved by everyone who knew her; family and friends, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and the caring staff at Green Hill Manor.

Surviving are two daughters and two sons, Debbie (Kenny) Binkley of New Knoxville, OH, Linda (Mark) Nighswonger of Knoxville, TN, Gary (Karen) Gross of Tinley Park, IL, and Jeffrey (Brenda) Gross of Rensselaer, IN. She had 4 grandchildren, Jesse, Justin, and Renee Nighswonger and Donald Binkley and 2 great grandchildren, Alana and Leon. Surviving is a sister Joyce (Donald) Bradley of Franklin, IN, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Gail Gross Nighswonger, brother Robert Leffingwell, and sister Betty McCarthy.

Graveside services will be held at the Fowler Cemetery on Friday, September 23rd at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial dinner to follow.
