Listen to Obituary

Carldonna “Kay” Wethington, 81, of Fowler, Indiana, passed away at her residence on July 30, 2026, at 10:45 pm, peacefully and surrounded by her family.

She was born in Cass County Indiana on December 23, 1944, to the late Carl and Donnabelle (Brady) Knight. Kay went on to attend Adams Township Schools in Carroll County and later, Boswell High School.

Her first marriage was to Jerry Smith. They had a son, Kyle Smith. Jerry precedes her in death. Kay later married David “Oley” Matson and had three children: David Matson, Rhonda (Matson) Winters and Ty Matson. Her infant son, David, preceded her in death.

On July 22, 2005, Kay married Joseph “JD” Wethington. He was by her side until the end when he passed away August 2017.

Throughout her life, Kay enjoyed many hobbies, coloring puzzles, camping, taking care of her plants, and crafts. Anyone who knew Kay, knows her crafts were one of a kind. She was also an avid collector of lighthouses and humming birds. She also found joy in watching sports on TV.

Even with her many battles with cancer, Kay was the most selfless, loving, funny, and incredibly strong woman. In the roughest times of her life, she always put others first. She may be gone from this earth, but her legacy will be carried on by the people who love her.

She leaves behind three children, Kyle Smith (Elizabeth), Rhonda Winters (Brandy), and Ty Matson (Merriah); her eleven grandchildren: Kyle Smith, Jr. (Faye), Joey Smith, Alissa Lanie (Scott), Seth Smith (Kaylee), Michael Smith, Hunter and Parker Winters, Haley Irvin (Matt), Austin Matson (Kiera), MckinzieMatson (Tyler), and Roni Deaton (Derek); her ten great-grandchildren: Ayelah, Oliver, Sophia, Scotty, Maddox, Wrenly, Taylor, Mary, Ava and Bryson; her brother, Ron (Ruby) Knight; sisters, Sherry (Don) Hunt, and Lisa Muse (Richard). She leaves many nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly. She shared a very special bond with her sisters, Sherry and Lisa.

Welcoming her into heaven are her parents, Carl and Donnabelle, her infant son, David, and her husband, JD; her sister, Carol Brown and many friends that she missed.

Though she will be missed in this lifetime, her battle with cancer is finally over.

Kay’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Fowler American Legion, August 29, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
