Phyllis Ann (Brouillette) Muller

Phyllis (Brouillette) Muller, 92, died August 13, 2023. She will be sorely missed. Phyllis is survived by her loving family: sons, Tom (Donna) and Jeff Muller; daughters, Cindy Baur, Bev Muller, Lori Slota, and Becky (Bob) Stephan; grandchildren, Luke (Caitie) Muller, Alex, Cole (Paige), Ashley Slota, Will, Nick and Cate Stephan; great-grandchildren Conrad and Teddy Muller; and sister, Florence (Jayne) Spangenberg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Muller; son Gary, and grandson Chad.

Phyllis was born in Lafayette, Indiana to Philip and Agnes Brouillette on July 6, 1931.

She was a 1949 graduate of Boswell high school, where she was a cheerleader. Phyllis loved the after-game dances, her music classes, playing the sax, and also sang in the choir. Phyllis attended the Ray Vogue dress design school in Chicago (1949-1950), where she designed and made her wedding dress. In 1950 she married Al Muller and lived in Fowler, Indiana to start her family.

1963-Moved to Indianapolis and purchased an 80-run grooming and boarding dog kennel. Phyllis was one of the founding members of the Indianapolis Shetland Sheepdog club.

1986-Back in Indianapolis-she started her home-based beauty salon/ spa; along with her clothing consignment boutique. Her business grew rapidly.

Between 1965-1980 her personal enrichment classes included- Photography, Psychology, art of speech, stocks, assertiveness training, real estate business management, upholstery, and cosmetology. She was a natural born entrepreneur- taking risks, and always ahead of her time. All this, while raising her growing family of seven. “She always had everyone’s best interest at heart.” You had to admire her SMILE, energy, laughter and ability to continually look forward. Even into her 90’s. Touching hearts and uplifting minds. She was and forever will be the family’s mentor and, ROCK.

Later in life, she loved her ballroom dancing and used her seamstress skills combined with her consignment shop gowns to customize her elegant dance dresses and festive costumes. She was a member of the Continental Dance Club and not long after joining, found herself on the board of directors. Her travels include Japan and Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Alaska.

She was a busy lady with not much time for cooking. So, she liked the saying... “Some people see the glass as half full, others see the glass as half empty. I see the glass as another dish to clean.”

Visitation will be from 10-12pm (EST) Friday, August 18, 2023 until Mass at 12pm (EST) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Earl Park, IN with Fr. Sean M. Aaron officiating. Followed by interment at Sacred heart Catholic Cemetery, Fowler, IN. A luncheon will be held thereafter at St. John the Baptist Parish Hall in Earl Park.
